Joey.SPL - Visual Artist
On my journey, as a practitioner of arts & its contributory activities, I endeavour to support people around me in the journey towards awareness,
metamorphosis & growth. Together, expanding our understanding and healing from the personal, to the local, to the global.
“Art is not a notion but a motion.
It’s not important what art is but what it does”
~ Gilles Deleuze
Joey is a practising artist who has been showcasing her work in Singapore, Australia, and Malaysia for over a decade. She also created a permanent public artwork for Singapore’s King Albert Park MRT station.
She specialises in sculptural installations. Her practice began with a focus on bringing ideas to life through materials like metal and concrete and has since expanded into media projects, light projections, and interactive installations.
Common subjects that appear in her work are rocks, stylised mountains, trees, and the moon. Rooted in Wittgenstein’s Ordinary Language Philosophy, her work captures the subtleties of everyday life through playful and contemplative expressions.
Joey also co-founded Artists Caravan (AC) in 2008 with artist Ong Xiao Yun.
AC is an independent art collective that thrives on nomadic, site-specific, and multi-disciplinary projects. Inspired by the interplay of 'self,' 'others,' and 'environment,' our projects act as creative pilgrimages, bringing together diverse creatives and communities.
